CATL’s Naxtra Battery Passes New National Standard Certification

2025-09-08

On September 5, CATL's Naxtra battery passed the GB 38031-2025 Electric Vehicles Traction Battery Safety Requirements (New National Standard) certification, becoming the world's first sodium-ion battery to obtain this certification.

The New National Standard will officially take effect on July 1, 2026, aiming to eliminate the risk of electric vehicle fires from the source. It imposes strict safety requirements on various aspects of the battery, including thermal propagation, bottom impact, and fast-charging cycles. In third-party authoritative tests conducted by the NEV Testing Center of CATARC, CATL's Naxtra battery demonstrated excellent safety performance at both the cell and battery pack levels, successfully passing all tests.

The Naxtra battery not only effectively reduces dependence on lithium resources but also contributes to building a safer and lower-carbon battery ecosystem. Additionally, it addresses the low-temperature challenges faced in colder climates, promoting the adoption of NEVs on a wider scale.  The successful certification under the New National Standard marks an important milestone for sodium-ion batteries, paving the way for their large-scale application and widespread use.
