CATL's Qiji Energy Selected as Case Example in UNGC ESG+20 Campaign

2024-12-04

Recently, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) officially released the 20 Case Examples for 20 Years: Private Sector's Sustainable Development in China at the UN Building in Beijing. CATL's Qiji Energy was selected into the case examples of UNGC's ESG+20 campaign for its innovative practices and remarkable contributions towards the green transition of heavy-duty trucks.

As the world pays increasing attention to sustainable development, ESG serves as a key measure for the long-term value and social responsibility of an enterprise. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the concept of "ESG" proposed by UNGC. UNGC launched its "20 Year, 20 Case Examples of Sustainable Development" to the international community, with the aim of encouraging all sectors of the society to ponder over and engage in sustainable development through demonstrating outstanding performance of corporate innovation in ESG and boosting the widespread promotion of these cases around the globe.

At present, carbon emissions from China's transportation sector account for approximately 11% of the total figure in the country, especially within carbon emissions from road transportation (54% of the contribution comes from heavy-duty trucks) excessing over 80% of the total number of the whole sector. Hence, promoting the all-around electrification of heavy-duty trucks is of great significance to the  sustainable green transition and the achievement of dual-carbon goals in logistics industry.

Considering constraints in range, charging, battery life, and cost,  there is still considerable room for improvement in the overall penetration rate of the electric heavy-duty truck market. CATL's self-developed in-port heavy-duty truck chassis battery swapping solution  can realize one-stop swapping of different brands and models,  providing the logistics industry with a more economical, efficient, eco-friendly and safer solution while boosting the widespread application of battery electric heavy-duty trucks for the effective reduction of carbon emissions and other pollutants. Facing new challenges, Qiji Energy will join hands with more partners to help the logistics and transportation industry reduce costs, increase efficiency, and accelerate green transition.

Moving forwards, under the guideline of UNGC ESG principles, CATL will speed up its efforts to boost the electrification of heavy-duty trucks based on its continuous technical innovations, thus doing its part in global sustainable transportation development while implementing its "Carbon Neutral Strategy."
